Outspoken bishop steps down after almost two decades leading Calgary’s Catholics, cites health reasons

While this article doesn't do +Henry the justice he is due, I post it to note his retirement. He was one of my professors back in the Seminary and I have admired his, faith, intellect, and (for lack of a better word) 'gumption' then and now. His positions were always rational and well explained; his fidelity to Church teaching, solid and clear. He is the type of cleric that I have admired and attempted to emulate during my years as a priest. I wish him a happy retirement, hopefully somewhere warmer in January than Alberta!

His replacement, +Bill McGratton was someone I studied with as he was two years ahead of me in the Seminary. He shares many if not all of the same characteristics of personality that I admire in Bishop Henry - albeit at a somewhat 'lower volume' when it comes to public pronouncements. Calgary's gain is Peterborough's loss. But any successor to +Fred Henry will have big shoes to fill. + Bill McGratton will fit the bill quite nicely.
